The Oxford Brush Company is located in the picturesque, historic market town of Burford in the Cotswold hills of West Oxfordshire, England. The toponym derives from the Old English words burh meaning fortified town or hilltown and ford, the crossing of a river. The earliest confirmed reference of the town was in the Doomsday Book of 1086.
Set on the River Windrush, Burford is best known for it’s beautiful high street of classic Cotswold stone buildings, unchanged for centuries. This beautiful setting offers countless pubs, cafes and restaurants and, of course, many boutique shopping venues.
The Oxford Brush Company is part of the Oxford group of 8 retail companies, established over 30 years ago with the first, small shop on the high street selling knitwear. As the business grew, more retail space was acquired to house the growing ranges, eventually expanding into The Oxford Shirt Company as you will find it today, with a full collection of Men's, Ladies' and Children’s wear located in it’s current home which was first built in the 17th-18th century. The shop frontage was originally created in the early 19th century to house various trades such as a chemist and a grocer, and remains the same to this day.
Today The Oxford Shirt Company and group spans over 8 unique shop frontages including the Brush Company, all of which have been sympathetically adapted inside to create a venue which is full of character, and well worth a visit.
